"Born to Run" Author Chirstopher McDougall Talks to SoCalRunning.com
It was my favorite book o
f last year, Born to Run. It is a must read or listen if you are a runner.
In this interview Christopher McDougall shares why he wrote he book and his love for running. It is a short clip yet gives you a glimpse into the psyche of this author/runner.
Sometimes meeting the author give you a clearer picture as you turn the pages. It helped me imagine the “Oso” plowing his way through the Copper Canyons and inspired my running overall.

When I bought the book, I was prepared for a technical treatise on technique. Instead, it is more like a combination of Carlos Castaneda, Ultimate Fighting, and the Joy of Running.
If you don’t read anything else, check out Chapter 28. It is a riveting hypothesis about why we are meant to do long distance running.
Towards the end, I couldn’t put it down. It finishes with a cast of fascinating characters of ultimate runners that compete in the ultimate long distance run with all the elements that make for a good read. I give it two thumbs up!
Coach Steve, that’s so cool you got to talk to Christopher McDougall! This book is next up on my reading list.
